So, the first proper Wicked Walk for some time, and it didn’t disappoint. We have driven over Ranmore Common for many years, and even flown down the valley on the paramotor following the railway line, but we have never visited for a walk.
Starting in the National Trust car park, which is free for members or a few pounds for non members for a couple of hours, it’s easy to find your way through the gate to the to the start of the walk. Then simply follow the route to enjoy a varies terrain, with fabulous views towards Dorking, and then through the woods where you will find all sorts of interesting things to explore including three World War Two national defence pillboxes. If you have a vivid imagination you can almost see the cast of Dad’s Army rushing to protect the idyllic Surrey countryside.
This is not a walk for tiny tots, or people with walking difficulties due to the varied terrain, but it’s an ideal dog walk, or for active families, with easy parking and plenty to explore and a handy mobile cafe in the car park.
