When the tide is in this is a fabulous alternative to the difficult stumble that you will get from Bracklesham across the pebbles and shingle. It’s out and back beach walk that is perfect for the whole family including dogs. It’s flat, easy to walk, and when the tide is out you can walk along the beach all the way.
Start from the car park on Marine Drive in East Wittering and follow the path down to the beach. Once there turn right and it’s a straight walk along the seafront past West Wittering and onto one of the best sandy beaches in Sussex. The loop around East Head is about a mile and a half but well worth the extra steps, with fantastic dunes to explore and views across the water to Thorney Island, up Emsworth Channel, over to Hayling Island and the Isle of Wight.
By the very nature of a great beach walk it’s difficult to give an exact distance as everyone will make their own tracks around the beach, but it’s around 5.9 miles there and back, burning about 600 calories in about 12.4k steps
Parking in the car park during winter (1st November to 31st March) is very reasonable at £1.80 for over 2 hours so it’s a great day out with no rush.
